The music ministries of Saint Catherine of Genoa are as diverse as her people. Music is supplied for over 300 Masses a year in English, Spanish, French and French Creole. As “Catholic” means “universal,” the styles of music blended into Saint Catherine’s liturgies are universal as well, and may include diverse genre as Gregorian Chant, Hymns, Contemporary Praise Songs, Classical, and African American Gospel favorites. Cantors, sub-cantors, and choirs lead the music at our Vatican II Masses and at various times combine when larger musical forces are needed. As The Mass is the community’s source and summit of faith, it is with great pride that a high value is placed on music and the assembly’s full, conscious, and active participation---not believing that there is music in the liturgy, but that liturgy IS MUSIC.
We are always happy to welcome new members to our choirs. If you wish to join one of our choirs as a singer or musician, please see our Director of Music, Nick Myers, after Mass or call the church office at (212) 862-6130.
